NEW PROFESSORS IN MOUAU

The atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter on Thursday 15th October 2105 as the administration of Prof Hilary Edeoga rolled out 34 candidates promoted to the rank of Professors and 10 to the rank of Associate Professor.

This reflects the momentum in Prof Edeoga’s avowed drive to reposition the University’s status and ranking by improving the standard of quality education in MOUAU and prioritizing the Students and Staff Welfare.

The 52^nd meeting of the Appointments and Promotions committee held on Tuesday 13^th October,2015 under the chairmanship of Prof Hilary Edeoga  after following due process in the assessment of the candidates and with the external assessment report, have the under listed candidates promoted to the ranks of Professors and Associate Professors.

Fake Parents in MOUAU

In continued efforts to malign the VC Prof. Hilary Edeoga, some few individuals who don’t like Edeoga just because he did not allow them to continue in their illicit act of extortion, bully, harassment & victimization of the students, have sworn to destroy the peace & progress in MOUAU. On 29th Sep, some people were hired as parents to protest crooked allegation against the VC whom the whole Nation has praised for his transformation, honest & progressive leadership. Luck ran out of them when the State Security Service (SSS) arrested one Tony Okoro who was briefing the press alongside Uchenna Ikwulegbu & Nnamdi Ajom who confessed they are not parents but were hired and later briefed the press whom they have deceived on the truth. It is unfortunate that same people are spreading fake news that the University security is filled with armed cultist. The security team headed by Mr. Ekedo has ensured students security, peace and order in & within the Campus. Instead of allowing the SSS to do their work, they quickly rushed to the CP to allege that the school security armed to the teeth arrested the innocent by-standers. 

The qus is:-

1)    Why are they defending the so called by-standers?

2)    Why not leave the SSS to do their investigation?

3)    Why didn’t the students demonstrate if their allegations are right?

4)    Why hiring fake Parents?

5)    Why carrying rumor that MOUAU security is armed to the teeth when the Police whom they said went for the search have not said so?

The good people of MOUAU are urged to disregard the rumors and disassociate themselves from these cankerworms selfishly, seeking to destroy the peace & progress MOUAU is currently enjoying under Prof Edeoga.

OGANIHU ABIA ABIAZURUMEE CONFIR’S DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD ON PROF. EDEOGA

The association led by Mr. Okey Nwachukwu conferred on the MOUAU Vice Chancellor, Prof Hilary Edeoga the award of Distinguished Service to God and Humanity.

In his speech, the chairman said that the award is historic and symbolic and that the organization being a foremost Abia social-intellectual association with passion for a progress driven Abia State, they find it worthy to honor Prof Hilary Edeoga for his numerous achievements that have impacted on the lives of Abians with progressive mind set.

Nwachukwu described Edeoga as a warehouse of true academic intellect, a symbol of Oganihu Abia, an accomplished administrator, a man whose achievements and appearance speak for him, who has cut the attention of popular Abians outside the University environment who are eager to celebrate and encourage him to keep the good work going.

He said that Edeoga is the brain box, engine room and the navigator who has revitalized the University to an international standard.

The association said they are impressed and happy with the leadership of Prof. Edeoga who has brought explosive infrastructure, students and staff welfare, innovations, and high growth in the number of Students, Staff and Professors especially Abian.

They pray that when Edeoga leaves office, that God will bless MOUAU and Abia State with someone who will continue and consolidate on the developmental record and projects, saying that no individual is a saint, but is better to burn the candle than to stay in dark.

 In a similar mode, the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia have expressed their desire to appreciate Edeoga’s goodness, hard work and uncommon transformation going on in MOUAU.

The host community represented by Ikwuano/Umuahia Consultative Assembly on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor told him that after an exhaustive consultation with the leaders of thought within Ikwuano/Umuahia, the Assembly received emphatic approval to confer on him with the award of ‘’A LIVING LEGEND’’ .

The chairman of the Assembly, Chief Jerry Awa said that the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia are elated by the administrative ingenuity of Prof. Edeoga and wished there will be a second tenure. They also pray that God will bless the University and environ with the like of Edeoga when his tenure expires.

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Releases Post UMTE Result

Students who chose Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike as their choice of preferred University took their Post Unified Tertiary Martriculation Examination on 20^th and 21th of August 2015 at the University and the results were also published that same day. The Direct Entry Students are scheduled to take theirs on the 11^th of September 2015.

The information on ground shows that over Fourteen Thousand students chose the University as their preferred choice while the university’s quota is about four Thousand plus.
According to statistics, as at 2011, the university’s quota was just 1,250 One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Students which the university was unable to exhaust because of the low interest of students in choosing to study in the university which was seen as a glorified secondary school.

It is also notable to say that the quota of the university started appreciating since the inception of Prof. Hilary Odo Edeoga as the Forth Vice Chancellor of the University on March 1^st, 2011. The increase in the admission of students was born out of the zeal of the Vice Chancellor to rebrand the university and move it to international standard. Edeoga achieved this by first creating an enabling studying environment which includes

1. Building Ten ultra-modern hostels fully equipped with constant light and water supply within his 1st year in office through Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
2. Took students’ welfare as his utmost priority.
3. Acquiring Kia Rio and Hyundai saloon cars 45 in number to reduce the transport fare and ease transportation from the Campus to The Town.
4. Introduction of many Courses in the University.
5. Tackling infrastructural deficit the university suffered since it was established. 

Today, MOUAU is among the Nigerian Universities to reckon with, every parent wants their children to study in MOUAU because of the standard set by Prof Edeoga who is not yet tired with his zeal to give the University a good name.

Those who persecute me can’t even spell their names–Edoga, VC, MOUAU 

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Professor Hilary Edeoga, in this interview with STEPHEN UKANDU, reacts to the allegation of corruption levelled against him and his administration

In recent times, there have been avalanche of allegations of corrupt practices levelled against you by some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in your school. Why did you engage in these corrupt practices?

The person who is behind all these is the former Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme Director who was removed for incompetence.   Another one is the former Continuing Education Centre Director who was also removed because he stayed in CEC as Director for five years without graduating an ant. I had to remove him and put somebody who started working hard and graduated the backlog of students. At a point under the former director, students spent several years without graduating. Another one is a former Head of Department and a Deputy Director of CEC. He scored a student 40 per cent over 30 per cent and scored every other person zero. When somebody scores such outrageous marks, what do you think happened? Then the senate decided to investigate it along with other reports against him. So, an investigation panel was set up which followed due process according to the university’s laws to investigate him. When we got to a certain stage of the due process, he went to court. Let me ask you a question; if your wife takes you to court, do you still stay under the same roof with her? When that happens, our laws say that any member of staff including the Vice Chancellor that takes the university to court should be suspended pending the determination of the matter. When that happened, he claimed that he was being persecuted because he was the former chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities. But I know that ASUU cannot condone somebody mutilating results or victimising students. ASUU will also not condone a situation where your wife is not qualified and you want her to be given an employment just because you are ASUU Chairman.

NO CRISIS IN MICHAEL OKPARA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, UMUDIKE

In every human community there are those that strive to make things happen, striving to expand the frontiers of development and make a difference in their society. This breed of progressive minds, through their personal and collective efforts, gives their best to their community and in turn derives maximum satisfaction from the attendant development. At the opposite end, however the dark minds crouch and work and even pray against the success of every enterprise embarked upon by the positive minds. The vile-minded persons neither improve themselves nor contribute to the development of their community. In fact the word development is an anathema to them hence should not be given space to blossom.

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State has, unfortunately, found itself saddled with anti-development elements, who have sworn to see nothing good in the visionary leadership of Professor Hilary Odo Edeoga, the Vice-chancellor of the institution. The naysayers, who congregate in the name of “concerned ASUU members”, have been sowing seeds of discord among staff and students. But when they found they were not making any headway in their divisive mission they went to town and, not surprisingly, found willing tools in two local tabloids, The Eastern Reckoner and National Ambassador to propagate their falsehoods. The media practitioners (if they actually merit that noble title) in the two tabloids displayed the most reckless and unethical practice by publishing all the falsehoods fed them by the concerned ASUU members without making a modicum of effort to verify the information. Obviously the two local papers were already suffused with irrelevance and to the editors the only way out of their doldrums was to engage in sensational publication to entertain their gullible readers. What a shame!

The reaction of staff and students of our great University to the falsehoods and outlandish claims made by the dissidents have deflated the insidious propaganda. But we still deem it pertinent to put the records straight for those outside the MOUAU community who may not be familiar with the trend of events in the institution. To start with, there is need to define the so called concerned ASUU members and properly situate them in order to understand their motive in correct perspective. The people behind the malicious falsehoods are not amorphous even though they chose to hide under the veil of concerned ASUU members MOUAU chapter (as if it is national body). The MOUAU dissidents are well known to their fellow academic staff and the authorities of the University. There are not more than five lecturers that bandied together to wear the toga of concerned ASUU members, constituting an infinitesimal 0.6 percent of the total academic strength of 764 lecturers in the institution.

11 Deans get brand new cars

The VC of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Professor Hilary Edeoga has commissioned eleven brand new 2014 Toyota corolla cars for the official use of the deans of the eleven colleges in the University. This is in line with his principle of giving utmost priority to staff and students’ welfare and his transformation agenda towards making the university to become part of the global University. 

In his remarks, Prof. Edeoga said that his administration has provided five brand new 45 seaters Hyundai buses, 45 brand new Kia Rio and Hyundai cars to serve as campus shuttle to ease transportation within and outside the University. He also mentioned the provision of 20 Suzuki small cars for intra-campus taxi while 20 more will be added making it 40 Suzuki cars in two weeks ahead.

Prof. Edeoga also stated that all the principal officers have been provided with befitting cars to aid in their official duties.  He reminded the Deans that the vehicles are strictly for official use and advised them to handle them as they handle their private cars to prolong the life span.

The VC thanked the staff and students of the university who are dedicated to moving the university forward, saying that without their support, the management wouldn’t have achieved much. He also thanked the Federal government for its financial support which is making it possible to actualize the managements dream. 

He further thanked the genuine gentlemen of the press who have refused to be used by the few dissidents of ASUU to publish falsehood intended to malign the management of the University.

The VC lauded the efforts of Michael Okpara who brought about the college of Agriculture which metamorphosed into a University Of Agriculture and asked to sustain the vision he (Michael Okpara) had and said that instead of allowing his dreams to die, we should fight harder to make sure that it gets to where he never imagined.

NANS Scores Prof Hilary Edeoga

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS National) after its assessment tour to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike last Wednesday scored the Vice Chancellor Prof Hilary Edeoga above ninety percent 90% for making judicious use of funds from TETfund in developing the University to its glorious state.

The association earlier this year commissioned its executive to tour round the whole Universities in Nigeria to evaluate the extent the Vice Chancellors make use of the funds available to them by the Tertiary Education trust Fund in their various universities by sighting projects done with TETfund need assessment funds.

The president of NANS National Comrade Tijani Usman Shehu in his speech described Prof Edeoga as an outstanding VC whose integrity and sincerity is not questionable, he said the association is satisfied with the level of projects going on in the University especially the four Lecture Halls with two thousand capacity each, two examination halls, central science laboratory and six additional standard hostels thereby bridging the gap in infrastructural deficit. He told the VC that earlier before the executive’s tour, the association had sent two of its members to Universities to examine TETfund projects and give their report to the national body unknown to the Universities. He said MOUAU scored high and that the executive’s tour has verified the tenacity of their report. He lauded Prof Edeoga for not being selfish like some of his counterparts, but made good use of the funds in creating enabling environment for learning and promotion of Agriculture in Abia state and Nigeria at large.

The association presented an award of credence to Prof Edeoga in recognition of his efforts in repositioning Nigeria’s education standard for better. The president submitted a letter for award from All-Africa Students Union (AASU) as the “2014 Africa Most Outstanding Vice Chancellor” and “2014 Africa Most Outstanding University” in recognition of his outstanding profile in promotion of the students’ welfare. The association also submitted a letter pleading for amnesty for two students expelled by the University. 

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Edeoga in his response thanked the executive of NANS and described them as "leaders of today and tomorrow". He said that university should be a place for the formation and molding of characters trough learning, adding that the university is not a place for perfect people and therefore students should not be treated with high handedness in correcting their mistakes. He encouraged them to do what is right always and to be known for one thing "Good" and never to have two identities.

ASUU MOUAU Pass vote of confidence on VC; Prof. Hilary Odo Edeoga

The Academic Staff Union of University, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike chapter has vindicated professor Edeoga on the allegations leveled against him. The Union in a three page article published on Eastern Reckoner newspaper on Monday 20th July dismissed the allegation as a product of mischief makers who are pursuing personal interest rather than promoting the interest of the union. The union made it clear that Prof Edeoga has worked beyond imagination within four years of stay in the office thereby calling on anyone who is in doubt to visit the university to verify the tenacity of its claim.

According to the ASUU members, Prof Edeoga has never admitted students beyond the capacity of  infrastructure adding that the issue of the hostel fees has been addressed as those oversubscribed has the option of being refunded their money or carry it over to the next academic session as NDDC hostel has been completed and handed over to the university management.

The concerned members of ASUU was baffled that instead of applauding the Vice Chancellor on his numerous achievements, he was maligned even as he is not owing salaries nor have union gone on strike as a result of  low staff and student welfare.

ASUU passed vote of confidence on the VC as they describe him as a detribalized Nigerian and a great achiever who is contributing in great measures in repositioning education in Nigeria.

Okonjo-Iweala denies giving Buhari corruption dossier

The immediate former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has denied handing any dossier of corruption transactions under the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Some social media had reported her as having handed a dossier detailing deals considered less than transparent in the last administration.
But speaking through her Media Assistant, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu , Sunday the former minister said that nothing of the natured transpired between her and the president.
She said in a statement by Mr. Nwabuikwu that those being the story meant to make her regret serving in the Jonathan administration but that they would not succeed.

Hopes of reconciliation between the different factions in the Senate caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the leadership crisis in the chamber waned yesterday.

Spokesperson of the Senate Unity Forum loyal to Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, Senator Kabiru Marafa, yesterday asked Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to reverse the appointment of Senate Leader Ali Ndume and his deputy, Bala Ibn Na’Allah.

Shortly before going on recess last month, the Senate President announced the appointment of Ndume and Na’Allah as the choice of the North East and North West caucuses for the positions respectively.
