UMUDIKE VARSITY DENIES ALLEGATIONS AGAINST VC, PETIONERS ARE IMPOSTORS

The management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, has stated that the “Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the university did not write the petition to President Muhammadu Buhari on any allegation against its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hilary Odo Edeoga.”

I would be recalled that a petition signed by by Dr. A. U. Onyebinama and Dr. E.S Willie was recently sent to the President over allegations of academic fraud, corruption and acts of impunity levelled against the vice chancellor of the university.

The institution in a statement made available to TODAY on Sunday, said the petitioner, Dr. A. U. Onyebinama, was “an impostor who uses the name of ASUU to pursue selfish goal and to disrepute the VC Prof Edeoga for taking a disciplinary action against him when he was indicted by a panel that investigated his wrong-doings in the University and should be disregarded

The statement reads in part, “The union on 9th September, 2015, passed a vote of no confidence on the executives of ASUU Michel Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike led by Dr. Onyebinama for misrepresentation, indiscipline, high-handedness, misinforming the National Executives NEC and misleading them (NEC) to advice the branch to petition to the President against the Vice Chancellor, acting in violation of the common wishes of the congress (ASUU MOUAU branch), writing petition in ASUU name to the President against the Vice Chancellor without due consultation and approval of the members of the union. The union also elected an interim executive led by Engr. Dr. Joseph Adama as interim Chairman and Jones Ebieri as the interim Secretary to hold office for 90days on which a substantive executive should be elected

“The union had also through Thisday Newspaper, Tribune 27th October and Sun 28th October, 2015 page 38; published a communiqué signed by over 250 members of ASUU stating the withdrawal of their membership from the national body for its refusal to recognize the ASUU interim executives led by Engr. Dr. J.C. Adama and wish to be known and addressed as “The Academic Staff Of MOUAU led by Engr. Dr. Joseph Adama as interim Chairman and Jones Ebieri as the interim Secretary. They also alerted all banking institutions in Nigeria not to transact business nor obey instructions of existing signatories on the ASUU MOUAU account held in trust for the Academic Staff of MOUAU until further notice

“Also in the interest of peace, the union communicated all the security agents in Nigeria and assured parents who have their wards in MOUAU that pulling out from the national body is for the good of all.
